The new HOREX prototypes
Simultaneously to the presentation of the HOREX design prototype, the focus at HOREX is on working with the prototype test vehicles. Following a very promising first round of road testing, the engineering team is now tasked with fine-tuning the test bikes.
The main idea for the initial rollout was to take a close look at the basic engine and suspension tuning. Key CAD parameters from the engineering phase were tested and this provided the direction for further planning.
During the first few kilometers on the road, the engine response was amazingly smooth, yet powerful and assertive. This is one area in which complex coordination work and extensive dynamometer testing clearly paid off. The VR6 roadster's suspension also met the engineering team's high expectations in terms of stability and maneuverability.
Extensive test runs on country roads and testing areas are currently being conducted to check the engine's responsiveness under all load conditions and to evaluate the frame and spring elements under higher loads. The results of these tests provide key input for the final configuration of all components – essential for the series production launch 2012 in Augsburg.
To better explore and evaluate the potential of the chassis, the new HOREX is now being road tested with a setup that has been modified across several parameters. The engineers are currently testing a slightly different layout of the geometry and the spring elements to further improve the bikes' handling characteristics.
To speed up the implementation of road testing results, standard parts used on the prototypes are not the same as the components that will appear on the series-production HOREX. This is an important aspect of the testing phase that makes it easier to implement modifications to the suspension and engine – for more effective advanced development of the VR6 roadster.
Parallel to the road testing of the HOREX prototypes, dynamometer testing of the VR6 engine is continuing in the test labs at University of Munich. Further details are available at this page.
